Because my pc is 5 years old, I am considering buying a new computer this
weekend when I don't have to pay the 6% sales tax. Usually I have box
builtt to my specifications,
I want to run OS/2 primarily. My current box has Warp 4 Fxpk 15 (14085),
a 1000 mh AMD processor, 500 gb of ram, a floppy drive, a CD burner, a 20
mb hard drive which is nowhere near full and a 19" CRT. I will update it
with Merlin assuming I can convince Jim Davidson to sell me his unopened
copy or someone else to sell or lend me a copy. The only thing my current
box won't do is handle streaming video but that may be because I use
dial-up. If the 1000 processor will handle streaming video, I will get
additional ram, a big 2nd hard drive, and a DSL line that should provide
it. I will also replace the CD burner with a CD/DVD unit.
Circuit City is advertising an HP Pavilion with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core
Processor 3800+, 2GB DDR ram, 320GB hard drive. It burns and plays CD's
and DVD's and comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. Circuit City
is advertising this box at $560 with a 19" lcd monitor. Their ad says to
full price is $820 + the upgrade to a 19" monitor.
Can I put OS/2 on this pc without a big hassle?
Is this a good pc to buy? Or does Dell make a better one? Is there a
detachable floppy drive to use with an HP or a Dell?
TIA for the comments and suggestions.
Jack
