Subject: SCOUG-Help: After Installing SeaMonkey: Update 1

Content Type: text/plain

In this case, Google was a friend. The Image Zoom
extension -- an older version of it -- was the
culprit. I removed it with the Extension Uninstaller,
and the lower border area + overlay went away. I
tried replacing it with the current version of I.Z.,
but that has caused other problems. The extension
says it is good for SM 1.0. That statement is either
questionable, or else SM 1.1 renders it problemmatical
again. What happens is that Edit --> Preferences
becomes inaccessible (trying to get there from the
Menu does nothing), or else it brings up a totally
blank options tree. This holds true now for *both* my
SM and Moz 1.7.12, since they are sharing a Profile.

My designated Home Page is also being ignored at
startup, with Mozilla.Org coming up instead.

I have had to uninstall (the later) Image Zoom again
from the Profile -- reluctantly, since I considered
it a useful extension. This seems to have restored
the availability of Edit --> Preferences for SM,
but it is still AWOL for Moz 1.7.12.

One other thing I'm noticing is that the business
where an extension asks you at install time whether it
should go in with the Profile, or into the same
directory with the program executables, is no longer
offered as an option. There are pros & cons with
either choice, but it is nice to have that choice, and
now it seems I don't.

I'm afraid I don't recall, but isn't there some method
by which you delete Chrome, if it has become faulty or
unstable, and it rebuilds itself ? Is this reliable
or risky ?
