You don't quite understand the object associations so I hope this will help.
The data files don't have associations, the program objects have associations.

Check the "OPEN AS" menu to see all the program object associations. If there
are only Netscape and JAVA then do the following. If there are more than those
two then include them in the following procedure.

1. Go to the Netscape program object and delete the HTML association.
2. Go to the JAVA applet program object and delete the HTML association.
3. Go to the Netscape program object and add the HTML association.
This will now be what is launched when you double click on a HTML file.
4. If you want, go to the JAVA applet program object and add the HTML file.
I do this so it is on the "OPEN AS" menu selection.

Doing this will change all HTML files in the system to the new open order.

Repeat the above for the program objects that are associated with the GIF
and JPG file types.
