This month's new listings - Applications:
Peter Weilbacher has released Firefox version 3.0.11 as of 06/12/2009.
This has been demoed by Tony Butka at previous SCOUG general meetings.
It is a browser based on Mozilla that does not contain mail, newsgroups,
Composer, IRC, etc. Go to
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/3.0.11/contrib/; the file
name is firefox-3.0.11.en-US.os2.zip. More info is at
is at http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/.
NOTES:
- If you are looking for an all-in-one suite similar to Mozilla, please
take a look at SeaMonkey version 1.1.17 (see the next item).
- Steve Wendt has a Warpzilla tips page at
http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html.
- This is primarily a bug-fix release and does not have any new
functionality added.
- You must unzip the file yourself into a directory and then create or
update a program object accordingly.
- As this is a major upgrade over the 2.0.0.x series, be sure to read
the README file; there are some known limitations listed there,
particularly with printing.
- The GCC runtime is required; download that at
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.zip (zip file),
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.wpi (WarpIn archive),
or ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.exe (a self-
extracting executable). The GCC runtime installer defaults to
x:\OS2\DLL (where x is your OS/2 or eComStation boot drive); it may
be preferable to put the runtime in the same directory as the
Firefox executable, or in x:\ECS\DLL (which is where I have it on my
eComStation machine).
- Starting with Firefox 3.0, IPLUGINW.DLL for Java support is already
included. Also, the Innotek Font Engine is no longer required with
Firefox 3.0.x.
- Tony's notes on installing and running Firefox are at
http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2003/scoug310.mozilla.html.
Peter Weilbacher (with the help of William L. Hartzell) has also released SeaMonkey
version 1.1.17 as of 06/28/2009. It is a continuation of the Mozilla
Suite, which was discontinued a few years ago. Go to
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/3.0.11/contrib/; the file
name is seamonkey-1.1.17.en-US.os2.installer.exe (self-extracting
executable), or seamonkey-1.1.17.en-US.os2.zip (zip file). More info
is at http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ and
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/.
NOTES:
- Steve Wendt has a Warpzilla tips page at
http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html.
- This is primarily a bug-fix release; however, according to Peter,
Cairo support has now been activated, so it now supports SVG and Canvas.
- If you are upgrading from SeaMonkey version 1.0.x, you may want to
uninstall version 1.0.x before installing version 1.1.17; see my
comments in the
Feb. 2007 Download!.
- If you are installing the zip file version, you must unzip the file
yourself into a directory and then create or update a program object
accordingly.
- The GCC runtime is required; download that at
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.zip (zip file),
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.wpi (WarpIn archive),
or ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.exe (a self-
extracting executable). The GCC runtime installer defaults to
x:\OS2\DLL (where x is your OS/2 or eComStation boot drive); it may
be preferable to put the runtime in the same directory as the
SeaMonkey executable, or in x:\ECS\DLL (which is where I have it on my
eComStation machine).
- This version requires an updated version of IPLUGINW.DLL for Java
support; go to http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html#IPluginw.
- Tony's notes on installing and running SeaMonkey are at
http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2003/scoug310.mozilla.html.
