Has anyone tried the updated Adaptec SCSI drivers (7800FAM.EXE containing
AIC7870.ADD, dates are 5-1-2001)? I've got a AHA2920C which works well under
driver version 2.3. I don't remember from where I got it from but the one from
Device Driver Pak 2 (v2.4) stunk - I went back to 2.3. The 2.3 version was a
definite
improvement over the v2.11 that I think was in FP10 or thereabouts. Now, we
supposedly have an improved version of AIC7870.ADD which, according to my hex
editor, calls itself version 10.2. Unfortunately, when used in my system, it
reports that there are no Adaptec cards in the system and refuses to load.

Could it have anything to do with the extra files in the archive (beyond the
.ADD)? The archive includes something called .DDP files, the device description
profiles (the AIC7870.DDP is reproduced below) and the .EXE files, the
7870PRES.EXE of which is called the 7870 family devices detection module. The
only reference in the readme is a listing of these files - the manual
installation instructions for the device driver says nothing about it. Anyone
got any ideas?
It's not a big deal, but there are a few quirks with the mostly working driver
that I am now using (2.3). Thanks.

-Rocky
