On the print head align menu there is an item that asks if the cartridge being installed is new or
old. That may suggest the printer memorizes the positioning of a previous cartridge so switching is

Paper is the biggest factor. There is a write up on the SCOUG site of a presentation done many months
(years?) ago that you might consult. I forget the title. Something like "Paper Man".
