Actually, VM was actually the underpinning for OS/390 and, I suspect, z/OS,
as well. I don't know whether you can still license a copy of VM/CMS, but VM
is alive and well.

I use Kedit, too -- and have for about 20 years(!). One of the things (only
one, but a biggie) that keeps me from attempting to install and run Linux is
the lack of a really good, logical editor -- which Vi is not, in my opinion.
If someone ported Kedit to Linux, I _might_ consider installing and getting
acquainted with it as an interesting exercise. Have I been spoiled?
Possibly, and you can trace that back to my first experiences with Xedit
(and, later, with Kedit).
