I have two IDE controllers (4 drives total)and 4 SATA channels
on my Tyan MB. I have two CDs on the first IDE controller
(because they have to be there to be made bootable), 2 PATA on
the second controller, and one SATA. I also have a PCI SCSI
card to run my old CD writer. I can run eCS from any CD, PATA
or SATA drive. I don't know how the BIOS would assign drive
letters because I assign them via LVM. The BIOS numbers the
drives PATA first, then SATA. If I were to set the SATA to
boot I suppose they would be numbered first. When I once used
a PCI IDE controller for more drives (!), I think it got
inserted after the onboard IDEs and before the SATAs. This is
getting to complex for me. Goodbye.
